Vooruit-exe

Line-Up is het vervolg op EUX, de één-op-één voorstelling die eerder dit jaar bezoekers verrukte in Villeneuve-les-Avignon, Kortrijk, Zurich, Brussel, Amsterdam, Ljubljana, Gent en Hasselt.

Met Line-Up zet Crew een belangrijke volgende stap in de exploratie van de immersieve echnologie als performatief medium. Line-Up neemt bezoekers mee in de wereld van de mythische verbeelding. Ze nemen plaats in het verhaal, worden geconfronteerd met turbulenties onder het oppervlak. Het is ècht …en het is ontijdelijk.

Op 7 oktober opende de tentoonstelling van Almost Cinema 2009 officieel de deuren, in aanwezigheid van de deelnemende kunstenaars. Gemist? Dit videoverslag laat ze ze aan het woord over hun bijdrage. De partners van Almost Cinema, Filmfestival Gent en Vooruit, kregen heel positieve reacties op de laagdrempelige tentoonstelling die cinema-ervaringen van het scherm losweekt. De Morgen (Jozefien Van Beek) bedacht de tentoonstelling met een 4-sterren-recensie.

Wat is de mooiste affiche van het voorbije cultuurseizoen? Tot 29 oktober kan het publiek zijn favoriet kiezen uit een selectie van tien straffe affiches door een vakjury. De winnende ontwerper wordt in het kader van The Power of Print bedacht met de publieksprijs. Wij brachten natuurlijk onze stem uit voor de affiche van ons muziekfestival Etoiles Polaires Montréal, een opgemerkt ontwerp van Vooruits huisvormgever Mathias Timmermans.

Europalia focust dit jaar op China. Sinds een geslaagde samenwerking rond Rusland (Progress festival) kan Vooruit in het kader van Europalia ruimte maken om de alternatieve muziekscene van het gastland te belichten. Ook deze keer bleek dat geen evidente opdracht; een land als China is er niet happig op om artiesten uit de underground scene voor een voetlicht te plaatsen.

This year, Europalia will focus on China. After a successful collaboration during the Russian edition – the Progress festival – Vooruit will put the spotlight on China’s alternative music scene for this edition. Just like last time, this was no easy feat; China is not to keen on bringing underground artists to the public’s attention.

In samenwerking met het Filmfestival Gent onderzoekt Vooruit in het programma Almost Cinema op welke manieren verhalen kunnen loskomen van het scherm. De kunstenaars in Almost Cinema zijn er zelden op uit om een verhaal in een afgewerkte en geprojecteerde vorm op de toeschouwer los te laten. In de plaats daarvan worden stukjes realiteit opengelegd en gefileerd, en wordt de toeschouwer uitgenodigd om er midden in te stappen, rond te kijken en lijflijk fragmenten van een verhaal te voelen en te ondervinden.

At Almost Cinema, Vooruit and the Ghent Film Festival try to discover how stories can develop separately from the screen. The artists at Almost Cinema don’t tell their stories by presenting an edited and projected form, but by uncovering and stripping chunks of reality and inviting the visitor to step right into the heart of them, looking around and physically experiencing fragments of a story.

Vooruit bouwt dit seizoen verder aan de gesmaakte videoclip-campagne: “fan van”. Vooruit pursues its successful ‘fan’ video campaign this season. Choreographer Wim Vandekeybus is a fan of musician Marc Ribot. Jan Goossens, manager of the KVS, is a fan of the New York theatre company Nature Theater of Oklahoma, and drummer Teun Verbruggen is a fan of jazz composer and musician Louis Sclavis. Op 30 september 2009 is door de Stad Gent, de Provincie Oost-Vlaanderen, de Universiteit Gent en het IBBT (Interdisciplinair Instituut voor Breedbandtechnologie) de CVBA met een sociaal oogmerk Waalse Krook opgericht. Die vennootschap zal optreden als bouwheer voor het nieuwbouwproject dat gepland is op de Waalse Krook site, naast Vooruit. Tegen midden 2010 wil de CVBA samen met de Vlaams Bouwmeester een architect selecteren die dat nieuwbouwproject zal ontwerpen en een visie zal ontwikkelen voor de hele site. Met de oprichting van de CVBA Waalse Krook is dan ook een belangrijke stap gezet in de realisatie van een nieuwe multimediale site in het hart van Gent.

On September 30 2009, the City of Ghent, Ghent University and the IBBT (Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology) established the CVBA (Cooperative Limited Liability Company) Waalse Krook. The company will act as the project manager for the building project on the site of the Waalse Krook adjacent to Vooruit. By mid-2010, the CVBA and the Flemish Government Architect will choose an architect to develop a vision for the site as well as design the building project itself. The establishment of the CVBA Waalse Krook is therefore a hugely important step in the development of a new multimedia site in the centre of Ghent.
