Young@heart verovert Vooruit én Gent / takes Vooruit and Ghent by storm
Eind september presenteerde No Theater en het Young@Heart Chorus End of The Road in Vooruit, een samenwerking met les ballets C de la B en het Festival van Vlaanderen Gent. Het koor heeft een geschiedenis in Gent. Hun eerste doortocht dateert van 1998 (op uitnodiging van Nieuwpoorttheater). De zangers van Young@Heart stonden ook al tweemaal op de planken in Vooruit. Deze keer was er een extra link met Gent: Wim Van de Cappelle, technicus-scenograaf bij les ballets C de la B, ontwierp het decor en les ballets co-produceerde de voorstelling End of the Road.
At the end of September, No Theater and the Young@Heart Chorus performed End of The Road, in collaboration with les ballets C de la B and the Flanders Festival Ghent. The chorus has a thing with Ghent. They first performed here in 1998, on the invitation of the Nieuwpoorttheater. They also have performed at Vooruit twice. This time, there was an additional connection to Ghent: Wim Van de Capelle, technician and scenographer for Les Ballets C de la B, designed the sets and Les Ballets C de la B co-produced End of The Road.
De passage van de ouderlingen (het jongste koorlid is 76 en het oudste 87) ging niet onopgemerkt voorbij. Niet voor het publiek dat uitbundig genoot van de voorstelling en de zangers bedankte met een staande ovatie. Maar ook niet voor Vooruit. Inderhaast moesten extra trapleuningen worden geplaatst; er bleef een dokter permanent standby; maaltijden werden afgestemd op allergieën en kwaaltjes…
The visit of the grey-haired singers – their oldest member is 87, the youngest 76 – did not go unnoticed. They got a standing ovation from an audience that loved every minute of their show. And Vooruit did its best to accommodate the members: additional banisters had to be installed, a doctor was constantly on call, meals were adapted to allergies and ailments, etc.
Misschien zagen de Gentenaars het koor ook op straat? Vooruit gidste de kwieke zangers door de stad. Ze bewonderden the Mystic Lamb en gruwelden van de foltertuigen in het Gravensteen. Ze hingen aan de toog en drukten de locals op het hart dat Vooruit hun second home was. Zie video-verslag!
Perhaps the people of Ghent also saw the chorus on the streets? Vooruit gave the fittest singers a tour of the city. They admired ‘The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb’ and shuddered at medieval instruments of torture in the Gravensteen. Afterwards, they had a drink in the Café and couldn’t stop telling the locals that Vooruit was like their home away from home. Check out the video!
