Kunstencentrum Vooruit, Bond Moyson Oost-Vlaanderen & earproof starten een preventieproject rond gehoorschade: Are you earproof. De kick-off is This Beat Is Elektronic van Redbull Electropedia op zaterdag 19 september in Vooruit.

The Vooruit Arts Centre, the Bond Moyson (Socialist Health Insurance) East Flanders & earproof have set up a prevention project on hearing damage, ‘Are you earproof?’ The project kicked off at This Beat Is Elektronic, organized by the Redbull Electropedia at Vooruit on the 19th of September.

Met opvallende slogans wil Vooruit jongeren voortaan gevoelig maken voor het thema gehoorbeschadiging. En dat is nodig! Uit recent onderzoek blijkt dat bijna 1 op de 5 Vlaamse jongeren (17,8 procent) lijdt aan gehoorverlies door overdreven blootstelling aan luide muziek of lawaai tijdens hun vrije tijd. Uit een rondvraag onder jongeren tussen 16 en 19 jaar kwam naar voren dat meer dan de helft zelf ondervindt dat zijn gehoor niet meer optimaal is. Jongeren weten wel dat harde muziek schadelijk is voor het gehoor. Maar ze denken vaak dat ze zelf geen risico lopen. De schade loopt dan ook langzaam op en is niet direct merkbaar…

With these eye-catching slogans, Vooruit wants to make adolescents aware of hearing damage. It’s high time: research shows that nearly 1 in 5 Flemish adolescents (i.e. 17,8 percent) suffers from hearing damage as a result of excessive exposure to loud music or noise in their free time. Over 50% of respondents aged 16 to 19 claim they have experience hearing loss themselves. Youngsters are usually aware that loud music affects their hearing, but often don’t realize the risk because damage builds up slowly and unnoticed at first.

Vooruit zet preventie van gehoorbeschadiging dit seizoen nadrukkelijk op de agenda. Als organisator en gastheer van heel wat concerten, parties en events voor een groot (jong) publiek wil het kunstencentrum zijn bezoekers begeleiden in het comfortabel maar ook veilig van muziek genieten. De aanpak van het Nederlandse earproof, dat een opgemerkte sensibiliseringscampagne heeft opgezet en een gamma van kwaliteitsvolle gehoorbescherming promoot, lijkt Vooruit de juiste. Daarom gaat Vooruit een structurele samenwerking aan met het bedrijf onder de noemer Are you earproof?.

This season, Vooruit will focus heavily on hearing protection. As an organiser and host of several gigs, parties and events for a large and often young audience, the arts centre wants to stimulate its visitors listen to music in a safe and comfortable way. Vooruit liked the approach of the Dutch organisation earproof and set up the project ‘Are you earproof’ in close collaboration with them.

Bond Moyson Oost-Vlaanderen kiest ervoor om gezondheidspartner te zijn. Het initiatief past in de bredere werking van het ziekenfonds op het gebied van preventie. Het ziekenfonds waardeert het structureel karakter van het project Are you earproof? en de goede kwaliteit van de herbruikbare oordoppen die worden gepromoot. Na een testronde kunnen ook andere locaties eventueel op ondersteuning van het ziekenfonds rekenen.

The Bond Moyson East Flanders will offer an instant reduction of one euro: the machine will dispense a piece of one euro with each packet of earplugs.

De herbruikbare oordopjes bieden de ideale bescherming voor wie occasioneel naar luide muziek luistert. Voorwaarde is wel dat je de dopjes goed inbrengt, zodat ze de gehoorgang volledig afsluiten. Hoe je de dopjes best gebruikt, wordt op handige affiches aan de fuif- en concertgangers meegegeven.

Vooruit zorgt ervoor dat het geluidsniveau van concerten en dj-sets in zijn zalen nooit boven de 104 dB uitstijgt. Met registrerende db-meters wordt dat geluidsvolume onder controle gehouden, vaak in samenspraak met externe organisatoren. Bij dat geluidsniveau is het risico op gehoorschade nog steeds reëel. De muziek gewoon steeds stiller zetten is evenwel geen optie: dat zou het genot dat bezoekers in Vooruit komen zoeken, weg zijn. Een groep van 200 à 250 mensen die een praatje slaan, rondlopen, kuchen,… produceert nu eenmaal al de wettelijk toegelaten 90 dB.
