Courtisane is terug met het jaarlijkse festival voor (korte) film, video en mediakunst, na enkele kleinere activiteiten op verschillende locaties in binnen- en buitenland, o.m. in Vooruit: Without a trace – Erase/delete met een live performance door Pierre Hébert (CA).
Courtisane is back with its annual festival for (short) film, video and media art, after a few smaller events on several locations in Belgium and abroad, including Without a trace – Erase/delete with a live performance by Pierrre Hébert (CA) at Vooruit.
Het festival opent feestelijk op donderdag 23 april om 18u in de Bank van de Arbeid (Voldersstraat), waar de tentoonstelling A Simple Truth loopt. Aki Onda (JP) brengt er zijn 4 uur durende geluidsperformance ‘Cassette Memories’ als brug naar een goedgevulde avond met live performances in Vooruit: An evening on… memory – Past Imperfect.
The festive opening of the festival will take place on Thursday the 23rd of April, 6 p.m. in the Bank van de Arbeid (Voldersstraat), where you can see the exhibition A Simple Truth. Aki Onda (JP) will perform his four-hour sound performance ‘Cassette Memories’ which will be followed by an evening full of live performances at Vooruit: An evening on…memory – Past Imperfect.

Op An evening on… memory is het Italiaans collectief Home Movies te gast met ‘Circo Togni’ – prachtige super-8 films van een oud circusgeslacht die een nieuw leven krijgen met live muziekbegeleiding; ook Jasper Rigole toont er zijn werk op basis van gevonden super-8 films; Gill Arnò (IT) brengt zijn diaperformance ‘MPLD’; muzikanten Heleen Van Haegenborgh, Thomas Smetryns, Kristof Roseeuw en Michael Weilacher (US) brengen composities rond geheugen en herinneringen van Alvin Lucier.
During An evening on… memory Italian movie collective Home Movies will present ‘Circo Togni’ – featuring amazing Super 8 films of an old family circus that are given new life with live music; Jasper Rigole will show his work, based on found Super 8 films; Gill Arnò (IT) will present his slide performance ‘MPLD’, and musicians Heleen Van Haegenborgh, Thomas Smetryns, Kristof Roseeuw and Michael Weilacher (US) will perform memory-themed compositions by Alvin Lucier.
Op vrijdag 24 april presenteert Courtisane zijn eerste eigen productie in Vooruit: ‘565685981—> 565615566 – Draw a Straight Line and Follow It’ van Luke Fowler en Lee Patterson (naar een idee van La Monte-Young) in het kader van An evening on… landscapes. Ook Courtisanes ‘artist in focus’, de legendarische Britse avant-garde filmkunstenaar Guy Sherwin, brengt die avond een performance (‘Paper Landscape’).
On Friday the 24th of April Courtisane will present its first own production at Vooruit: ‘565685981—> 565615566 – Draw a Straight Line and Follow It’ by Luke Fowler and Lee Patterson (inspired by an idea of La Monte-Young), as a part of An evening on… landscapes. Courtisane’s artist in focus, legendary British avant-garde film artist Guy Sherwin, will perform ‘Paper Landscape’ that same evening.

Het uitgebreid programma korte film en video (in thematische compilaties van ca. 1u) is van donderdag 23 t/m zondag 26 april te zien in Sphinx en Film-Plateau. Het filmprogramma biedt zoals steeds een eigenzinnige selectie van fictie, documentaire, animatie en vooral veel genrehybriden – gekleurd door subjectiviteit en experiment, een combinatie van een beschouwende blik en persoonlijk engagement. You can enjoy the extensive short film and video programme (in thematic compilations of about an hour each) from Thursday 23 until Sunday 26 April at Sphinx and Film-Plateau. As always, the film programme will offer a refreshing selection of fiction, documentaries, animation and lots of genre hybrids – infused with subjectivity and experimentation, a combination of a contemplative view and personal commitment. Extra: meeting met Associazione Home Movies / Archivio Nazionale del Film di Famiglia rond super-8 amateurfilm op vrijdag 24 april om 11u in Vooruit. Wie (professioneel) bezig is met filmarchieven, super-8 film, amateurfilm,… en graag kennismaakt met artiesten die projecten ontwikkelen rond een van de grootste filmarchieven van Europa, is welkom op de informele meeting met Mirco Santi en Paolo Simoni. Extra: meeting with Associazione Home Movies / Archivio Nazionale del Film di Famiglia about amateur Super 8 films on Friday the 24th of April, 11 a.m. at Vooruit.
