Flat Earth Society, ons “huisorkest”, heeft na intensief repeteren in de studio’s van Vooruit een nieuwe schijf op de planken: Cheer Me, Perverts, uit op Crammed Discs. Op 23 april wordt de CD in première voorgesteld in de Theaterzaal van Vooruit. De composities zijn grotendeels van de hand van Peter Vermeersch (de titel van de plaat is een anagram van zijn naam). After intensive rehearsals in Vooruit’s studios, our ‘house orchestra’ Flat Earth Society is proud to present its new album Cheer Me, Perverts, released on Crammed Discs. On the 23rd of April the album will be launched exclusively in Vooruit’s Theaterzaal. Most of the compositions were written by Peter Vermeersch and the album title is an anagram of his name. Flat Earth Society heeft aan het begrip big band op de nieuwe plaat een nieuwe inhoud gegeven. De band speelt even capricieus en vinnig als een kwartet – maar met de rijke textuur van een groot ensemble. Geen obligate solopartijen, wel spitse dialogen tussen instrumenten. Even grappig als ernstig. Pakkend en dwars. Heb opnieuw de indruk dat de band zichzelf opnieuw overtreft.
On this new album, Flat Earth Society gives new meaning to the term Big Band. The band is as capricious and sharp as a quartet – but with the rich texture of a large ensemble. FES leaves out clichéd solos, instead opting for clever dialogues between instruments. Their music is funny yet serious, moving yet anarchistic. The band has surpassed itself once again.
Na het releaseconcert in Vooruit stelt de groep haar nieuweling voor in de Beursschouwburg, Arenberg, CC Strombeek en op het Europe Jazz festival in Le Mans. Zie fes.be.
