Courtisane is terug met het jaarlijkse festival voor (korte) film, video en mediakunst, na enkele kleinere activiteiten op verschillende locaties in binnen- en buitenland, o.m. in Vooruit: Without a trace – Erase/delete met een live performance door Pierre Hébert (CA).

Courtisane is back with its annual festival for (short) film, video and media art, after a few smaller events on several locations in Belgium and abroad, including Without a trace – Erase/delete with a live performance by Pierrre Hébert (CA) at Vooruit.

Het festival opent feestelijk op donderdag 23 april om 18u in de Bank van de Arbeid (Voldersstraat), waar de tentoonstelling A Simple Truth loopt. Aki Onda (JP) brengt er zijn 4 uur durende geluidsperformance ‘Cassette Memories’ als brug naar een goedgevulde avond met live performances in Vooruit: An evening on… memory – Past Imperfect.

The festive opening of the festival will take place on Thursday the 23rd of April, 6 p.m. in the Bank van de Arbeid (Voldersstraat), where you can see the exhibition A Simple Truth. Aki Onda (JP) will perform his four-hour sound performance ‘Cassette Memories’ which will be followed by an evening full of live performances at Vooruit: An evening on…memory – Past Imperfect.

Op zaterdag 25 april schiet muziekwerkplaats Cassette (voorheen Playground) definitief uit de startblokken met een muziekmarathon in de Handelsbeurs. Cassette ontstond vanuit de wens van Peter Vermeersch (Flat Earth Society) en enkele andere muzikanten om in Gent een vrijplaats te creëren waar muzikanten naar hartenlust kunnen experimenteren en nieuwe projecten uittesten.

On Saturday the 25th of April the Cassette music lab (formerly Playground) will celebrate its official opening with a music marathon in the Handelsbeurs. The idea for Cassette came about when Flat Earth Society’s Peter Vermeersch expressed the wish to create a music sanctuary in Ghent, where musicians can experiment and test new projects.

Het interregionaal netwerk Transdigital, waar Vooruit deel van uitmaakt (zie introductie), organiseert een seminarie in Mons op woensdag 29 en donderdag 30 april. Het thema van de tweedaagse bijeenkomst is interactiviteit en nieuwe digitale content. Deelname is gratis en staat open voor iedereen die in zijn praktijk mogelijkheden ziet voor nieuwe toepassingen, platformen en ideeën.

The interregional Transdigital network, which Vooruit is part of (see introduction), will organize a seminar in Mons on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 April. The theme of the two-day conference is interactivity and new digital content. Participation is free and open to everyone who is looking to implement new applications, platforms and ideas.

PressTo: Vooruit Café laat je niet op je honger zitten luidde een Vooruit.EXE-post van 29 september 2008 over de PressTo pagers, de kleine doosjes die zijn uitgerust met draadloze technologie om klanten van het Vooruit Café te signaleren dat hun bestelde schotels klaarstaan op de toog.

PressTo: Never go hungry again in the Vooruit Café was the title of an September 29 2008 EXE post about the PressTo pagers, the small boxes equipped with wireless technology to alert customers in the Vooruit Café that their food is ready at the counter.

In Vooruit wordt sinds de succesvolle introductie van de PressTo prototypes gedroomd over de verdere ontwikkeling van dat concept. Nu heeft Vooruit een team samengesteld van creatieve ondernemers (binnen en buiten Vooruit) dat zal nagaan of (en hoe) het concept kan worden vermarkt. Dat team is geselecteerd om deel te nemen aan een iBoot camp van het IBBT in het voorjaar 2009 – een uitgelezen kans op constructieve feedback en handige contacten in de bedrijfswereld!

Since the successful introduction of the prototypes, the Vooruit team has been dreaming about the further development of the concept. Now Vooruit has assembled a team of creative entrepreneurs (from in and outside Vooruit) who will study if and how the concept can be introduced on the market. This team has been selected to take part in an iBoot camp by IBBT in the spring of 2009 – the perfect opportunity to get constructive feedback and make new professional contacts.

Op 3 april 2009 stelde de SERV (de Sociaal-Economische Raad van Vlaanderen, het overleg- en adviesorgaan van de Vlaamse sociale partners) “101 inspirerende voorbeelden van competentiebeleid” voor, het resultaat van een boeiende zoektocht naar nieuwe voorbeelden van competentieontwikkeling en -beleid.

Met een dossier over loopbaanbegeleiding op maat van de werknemers werd Vooruit geselecteerd als 1 van de 101 voorbeelden (en als enige dossier uit de culturele sector!).

On the 3rd of April 2009, the SERV (Sociaal-Economische Raad van Vlaanderen – Socio-economic Board of Flanders) presented “101 inspirerende voorbeelden van competentiebeleid” (101 examples of inspiring skills management), the result of an interesting search for new examples of skills development and management.

Vooruit was selected as one of the 101 examples (and the only one in the cultural sector) for its project “loopbaanbegeleiding op maat van de werknemers” (personalized career guidance for employees).

Flat Earth Society, ons “huisorkest”, heeft na intensief repeteren in de studio’s van Vooruit een nieuwe schijf op de planken: Cheer Me, Perverts, uit op Crammed Discs. Op 23 april wordt de CD in première voorgesteld in de Theaterzaal van Vooruit. De composities zijn grotendeels van de hand van Peter Vermeersch (de titel van de plaat is een anagram van zijn naam). Ook de songtitels zitten vol knipogen, zoals de muziek: Bad Linen, Kotopoulopology,…

After intensive rehearsals in Vooruit’s studios, our ‘house orchestra’ Flat Earth Society is proud to present its new album Cheer Me, Perverts, released on Crammed Discs. On the 23rd of April the album will be launched exclusively in Vooruit’s Theaterzaal. Most of the compositions were written by Peter Vermeersch and the album title is an anagram of his name.
