Op 20 april 2007 lanceerde Vooruit een nieuwe web 2.0-site die het publiek stimuleerde om op ontdekking te gaan doorheen het programma, te personaliseren en hun tips / agenda / ... te delen met andere bezoekers. Achter de schermen werkten we verder om de website gebruiksvriendelijker, rijker en interactiever te maken. Het resultaat werd via beta.vooruit.be aan een testpubliek aangeboden, maar is nu helemaal live op www.vooruit.be!

On the 20th of April 2007 Vooruit launched a new web 2.0 site that stimulated the audience to browse the programme, personalize it and share their tips, calendar, etc. with other visitors. Behind the scenes we kept working on a more user-friendly, richer and more interactive site. The result was presented to a test audience on beta.vooruit.be, and can now be enjoyed by everyone on www.vooruit.be!

EVA (Ethisch Vegetarisch Alternatief) lanceerde “Donderdag Veggiedag op ‘t werk”. Vooruit beet de spits af als eerste deelnemer. EVA communiceerde: “Die van kunstencentrum de Vooruit in Gent laten er geen gras over groeien! In maart gaan ze de wereld redden in tien dagen, maar daar blijft het niet bij. Op dertien maart vlogen ze alvast in de dikke truien. Meteen werd ook het ambitieuze plan gelanceerd om vanaf nu voluit voor veggie te gaan op donderdag.”

EVA (Ethical Vegetarian Alternative) has launched “Thursday veggie day at work”. Vooruit was the first to take part in this project.

The game is up! is naar jaarlijkse gewoonte een platform voor een aantal internationale podiumkunstenaars die er hun werk voor het eerst in België presenteren. Om te beginnen is er de wereldpremière van W.M.D. (just the low points), de nieuwe voorstelling van Sponsored by Nobody. (zie fragment making of:)

The game is up! offers an annual platform for several international dramatists showing their work in Belgium for the first time. Kicking off the festival is the world premiere of W.M.D. (just the low points), Sponsored by Nobody’s new piece. (watch a clip about the making of:)

De stad vormde al vaker het actieterrein voor bepaalde kunstenaars op het programma van Vooruit, dat zal ook met deze the game is up! het geval zijn. Nogal wat kunstenaars houden ervan om hun werk expliciet buiten museale muren of zalen te houden en het letterlijk midden in de stad, in de samenleving te brengen. Wij trachten erop in te spelen door hen te ondersteunen in hun stedelijke avonturen en die vooral goed te documenteren! Van een tochtje op fietsen uit auto-onderdelen gemaakt, over guerilla gardening en reverse graffiti (aka ‘clean tagging’) tot een stoet voor fanfare en vuilniskar...

The city has already been the backdrop for several artists performing at Vooruit, and we’ll continue this tradition at the game is up. Many artists like to show their work outside the context of a museum or arts centre and transport it to the streets, right into the heart of society. We try to accommodate them by supporting them on their urban adventures and document these interventions as well as we can. From a bike ride on bikes made from car parts to guerrilla gardening and reverse graffiti (a.k.a. clean tagging) to a parade with a brass band and a dustcart…

Onder de noemer Gent over morgen vraagt de Stad Gent aan haar inwoners: welke stad wil je dat Gent is over 11 jaar? Het stadsbestuur formuleerde een ambitieuze stadsmissie. Rond de verdere invulling van die missie mogen alle Gentenaars mee praten en dromen… Op 27 maart stelt de stad in Vooruit toekomstvisies van Gentenaars aan hun stadsgenoten voor, met aansluitend een dansfeest. Een combinatie van debatcultuur en feestcultuur die Vooruit als gegoten zit…

Under the title Gent over morgen the City of Ghent asks her inhabitants what kind of city they would like Ghent to be in 11 years time. The city administration has formulated an ambitious city mission. All inhabitants of Ghent are invited to dream and talk about the further interpretation of this mission. The city will present the inhabitants’ visions and wishes to their fellow citizens in Vooruit on the 27th of March. The presentation will be followed by a dance, and we all know that this combination of debates and parties fits Vooruit like a glove.

Wie in 2004 al aan het werk was in Vooruit herinnert het zich vast nog: housekeeping was plots in de weer met micro en camera om hun ervaringen met ecologische schoonmaakproducten op video vast te leggen… Die kortstondige filmcarrière kaderde in de milieugedragsscan die Vooruit toen organiseerde en waaruit bleek dat er heel wat werknemers graag hun steentje bijdragen aan een proper milieu. Het beleidsplan 2010-2012 en concrete acties en ideeën die bottom-up ontstaan, tonen aan dat milieubewust ondernemen ondertussen is ingebakken bij de Vooruitploeg.

Those already working at Vooruit in 2004 will surely remember: the housekeeping crew was suddenly walking around with a microphone and a camera to record their experiences with ecological cleaning products. This short-lived film career was part of the environmental behaviour scan Vooruit organized at the time, from which it emerged that a lot of our employees were more than happy to contribute to a greener world. The 2010-2012 policy plan and effective measures and ideas that grew bottom-up show that the Vooruit team is truly committed to running an environmentally friendly arts centre.

Enkele (freelance) journalisten hebben zich de afgelopen weken verzameld om te ijveren voor het behoud van kritische cultuurjournalistiek. Recente ontwikkelingen in het medialandschap dreigen de cultuurkritiek immers meer en meer in hapklare formats te dwingen of al te zeer te focussen op grote namen. Om die evolutie aan te klagen lanceerde het collectief onder de noemer Press-for-more een visietekst en bijgaande petitie.

Several (freelance) journalists have gathered in the last weeks with a common goal: to safeguard critical art journalism. Recent developments in the media landscape threaten to limit art criticism to bite-size formats or to focus solely on big names. To denounce this evolution the collective launched a mission statement accompanied by a petition under the name Press-for-more een visietekst en bijgaande petitie.

Op 5 mei biedt Vooruit aan Press-for-more, geëngageerde collega’s uit de cultuursector en een geïnteresseerd cultuurpubliek ruimte voor een geanimeerde debatavond over cultuurjournalistiek.

On the 5th of May will offer Press-for-more, committed colleagues from the arts world and an interested culture audience a platform for an animated debate evening on art journalism.

Pianist Misha Mengelberg is 74 en een levende legende. We halen de meester naar Vooruit voor een reeks van 3 duoconcerten met Jean Yves Evrard. Eigengereide muziek en verrassende gesprekken zullen de leidraad vormen van die Mengelberg driedaagse op zondag 19, maandag 20 en dinsdag 21 april in de Balzaal—die voor de gelegenheid een gezellig salon wordt.

Pianist Misha Mengelberg is 74 and a living legend. This master will perform a series of three duo concerts at Vooruit with Jean-Yves Evrard. Unique music and surprising conversations will form the basis of these three days of Mengelberg on Sunday 19, Monday 20, and Tuesday 21 April in the Balzaal – which will be transformed into a cosy salon for the occasion.

Onder de noemer Toestanden geeft Vooruit de actualiteit een podium. Nieuwe inzichten op het wel en wee in de wereld leven bij gratie van uitgesproken meningen. En die uitgesproken visies zullen niet uit de lucht zijn bij de ondertussen al 6de editie van Les van de Eeuw over Europa op 18 maart en de lezing van Nawal El Saadawi op 31 maart.

Vooruit gives attention to current affairs with its Critical Forum. New insights into the state of the world depend entirely on people speaking their minds. And you will hear a lot of that at the sixth (!) edition of the Les van de Eeuw (Lesson of the Century) about Europe on the 18th of March and the lecture by Nawal El Saadawi on the 31st of March.
