Op 20 november streek Espace Ladda neer in de Snoepwinkel, een ruimte van Vooruit naast het Bespreekbureau (ex-use-it…). Espace Ladda is een “low-budget research gallery in progress”, een ontmoetingsplek waar Ladda vzw zijn “alternatief onderzoek naar jongeren(sub)culturen” verderzet. Open en bloot, met vitrine!

On the 20th of November Espace Ladda landed in the candy store, a Vooruit space next to the Box Office (formerly use-it). Espace Ladda is a “low-budget research gallery in progress”, a meeting place where Ladda vzw will continue its “alternative research into youth (sub)cultures”. For all the world to see, thanks to the shop window!

Het collectief The Yes Men, dat mediatechnieken gebruikt om zijn boodschap te verspreiden, heeft gisteren 80.000 nepexemplaren van de krant The New York Times verspreid. Het imiteerde ook de website van de krant. De artikels zeggen dat de Amerikaanse troepen in Irak onmiddellijk worden teruggetrokken. Ze hebben het over de opbouw van een systeem voor gezondheidszorg. The Yes Men collective, which uses media techniques to spread its message, has distributed 80,000 fake copies of The New York Times yesterday. It also made a copy of the paper’s website. The main article announces the end of the Iraq war and the immediate return of U.S. troops. Another article mentions the passing of the fictitious National Health Act, which would provide publicly funded health insurance, while an advertisement informs us of an urgent recall of automotive vehicles. Op 4 november 2008 werd in Vooruit het officiële startschot gegeven voor Transdigital, een internationaal platform voor kunst, onderzoek en technologie met partners in Vlaanderen, Wallonië en Noord-Frankrijk. Tijdens een eerste digitaal salon werden onderzoeksprojecten voorgesteld van o.m. IBBT, Numediart, Vooruit, Latitudes Contemporaines en TechnocITé. Die projecten zullen deel uitmaken van het traject dat Transdigital de komende jaren wil afleggen.

The 4th of November 2008 saw the official opening of Transdigital, an international platform for art, research and technology with partners in Flanders, Wallonia and Northern France. At this first digital get-together, new projects by IBBT, Numediart, Vooruit, Latitudes Contemporaines and TechnocITé were introduced. These projects will be part of the path that Transdigital will follow in the coming years.

Vlak naast Vooruit ligt de Waalse Krook, een site die er al jaren verloederd bij ligt. Na veel dromen en plannen is er met het project De Krook een bevlogen voorstel gelanceerd om er een multimediale site te ontwikkelen, die o.m. een nieuwe stedelijke bibliotheek en het Centrum voor Nieuwe Media zou huisvesten. De website www.dewaalsekrook.be en de pas geopende tentoonstelling ‘De Krook: een nieuw baken voor Gent’ leggen dat voorstel voor aan de Gentenaars en andere geïnteresseerden.

Right next to Vooruit you will find De Waalse Krook, a derelict site that has been abandoned for years. After years of dreaming and planning, an inspired project has been proposed to develop a multimedia site here called De Krook, with a new city library and the Centrum voor Nieuwe Media (Centre for New Media). The project is introduced to Ghent’s inhabitants and people interested on the website www.dewaalsekrook.be and the recently opened exhibition ‘De Krook: een nieuw baken voor Gent’.

Samenwerkingen zijn steeds belangrijk geweest voor het Etoiles Polaires festival. Samen met Etoiles Polaires vzw (Jan De Vroede) gaan we na welke gastmuzikanten, in dit geval Montrealse, we aan lokale artiesten kunnen koppelen. We zoeken naar puzzelstukken die in elkaar passen, terwijl ze soms van heel verschillende puzzels afkomstig zijn… Nieuwe samenwerkingen opzetten verplicht ons dan ook om een stuk dieper te graven dan bij een klassieke receptieve programmering. Met boeiende muzikanten knopen we een gesprek aan waarbij we peilen naar hun interesse in een samenwerking met andere muzikanten. Sommige geven je carte blanche, anderen zijn heel specifiek.

Collaborations have always been important for the Etoiles Polaires Festival. Together with the Etoiles Polaires vzw (Jan De Vroede) we will find out which guest musicians, from Montreal this year, we can set up with local artists. We are looking for pieces of the puzzle that fit together, even if they come from very different puzzles. Setting up new collaborations is much harder work than just programming bands in the classic way. We talk with inspiring musicians and ask them whether they are interested in a collaboration with other artists. Some of them let you call the shots, other are very specific about what they want.

De conferentie is een gezamenlijk initiatief van Universiteit Gent, KASK, Vooruit en NGE, zie catastrophe.ugent.be.

We cordially invite you to submit a proposal for the Tickle Your Catastrophe! conference, which will take place from 6 to 7 March 2009 at the Vooruit Arts Centre, in Ghent, Belgium, during the arts festival The Game is Up! . Vlaams Theater Instituut en Kaaitheater organiseren op woensdag 12 november 2008 een bijeenkomst rond “de ecologische voetafdruk van de podiumkunsten” (10:00-17:00 in Kaaitheater – Brussel, in het Nederlands en Engels). In de sessie “ecobeheer” zal o.a. Wouter Vermeylen van Vooruit zijn ervaringen en knowhow delen.

On Wednesday the 12th of November 2008, the Vlaams Theater Instituut (Flemish Theatre Institute) and the Kaaitheater will organize a conference on “the ecological footprint of the performing arts” (10 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Kaaitheater, Brussels in Dutch and English). In the session on ecobeheer (ecomanagement) Vooruit’s Wouter Vermeylen and others will share their experience and know-how.
