Vooruit-exe

Jazz: als je de a wat laat slepen klinkt het een beetje zoals het is – wat vuil en toch bekoorlijk. Wij aanzien jazz eerder als een vrijplaats voor creatieve muziek dan als een goed gedefinieerde muziekvorm. Henry Threadgill, met Zooid in Vooruit in november 08, vertelde ooit aan een journalist dat hij geen jazzcomponist is: “I just compose music”.

Jazz: if you let the ‘a’ drag on a bit, it sounds a little bit like it is – somewhat dirty and yet the epitome of grace. We regard jazz more as a free space for creative music than as a well-defined musical form. Nieuwe vormen (van vrijheid), nieuwe engagementen, nieuw werk (ook van oude bekenden), nieuwe teleurstellingen (sorry), nieuwe ontroering, nieuwe verwachtingen, nieuwe verwarring (goed bedoeld), nieuwe voorstellingen, nieuwe veronderstellingen (het gaat echt goed zijn), nieuwe vooroordelen (overwonnen en bevestigd), nieuwe veroordelingen… Het zijn maar enkele van de beloften waarmee we het nieuwe podiumseizoen in Vooruit lanceren. Op onze publieksdagen in mei knopen we (zoals steeds bij het einde van het seizoen) een gesprek aan met onze (trouwe) Vooruitbezoekers.

New forms (of freedom), new commitments, new work (including work by old friends), new disappointments (sorry), new emotion, new expectations, new confusion (well meant), new exhibitions, new assumptions (it’s going to be really good), new presuppositions (overcome and confirmed), new prejudices… Just a few of the promises with which we launch the new performance season at Vooruit. At our public days in May, we will be talking (as we always do at the end of the season) to our (loyal) Vooruit visitors.

In het voorjaar en de zomer van 2008 werk(t)en heel wat artiesten aan nieuwe projecten in de studio’s van Vooruit: deepblue neemt in Vooruit de aanloop naar de première van You are here, Dolores Bouckaert werkt aan een voorstelling die volgend seizoen in première gaat, ook Miet Warlop bereidt een project voor dat volgend seizoen in Vooruit te zien is (de voorlopige titel is Creatures), Bent Object (Peter Van Hoesen en Susanne Bentley) test in Vooruit Below 20 uit, een performance rond controle en immersieve omgevingen en Alain Platel bereidt in de Theaterzaal zijn nieuwe grotezaalvoorstelling voor. Het collectief C&H (Christophe Meierhans, Heike Langsdorf, Christoph Ragg m.m.v. Ulla Sickle) koppelde zijn residentie in april aan toonmomenten tijdens Courtisane festival – in het kader van de Courtisane tentoonstelling ‘Re-make/Re-model’.

In the spring and summer of 2008 plenty of artist will work – or have worked – on new projects in the Vooruit studios: deepblue is working towards the premiere of You are here, Dolores Bouckaert is working on a performance that will premiere next season, Miet Warlop is also preparing a project which will be shown at Vooruit next season (working title: Creatures), Bent Object (Peter Van Hoesen and Susanne Bentley) will try out Below 20, a performance focusing on control and immersion and Alain Platel is preparing his next big show in the Theaterzaal. The C&H collective (Cristophe Meierhans, Heike Langdorf, Cristoph Ragg; in collaboration with Ulla Sickle) combined its April residence with previews during the Courtisane festival, as part of the Courtisane exhibition Re-make/Re-model.

Op Klara.be staat een mooie terugblik op Zogezegd in Gent, het literair evenement in Vooruit waarmee Radio 1 en Boek.be de Literaire Lente op gang trokken op 4 april 2008. De Fenomenale Feminatheek, de collectie erotische foto’s van vrouwen van Louis Paul Boon, trok daar de nodige aandacht…

Miel Vanattenhove, jazzproducer bij Radio 1 en Klara, jazzkenner en -pleitbezorger, is overleden. Miel was regelmatige bezoeker van de jazzconcerten in Vooruit. Hij kwam hier ook af en toe vergaderen als lid van de Raad van Bestuur van de DJ Bigband. Een innemend persoon. Miel liep meestal rond in combat baggy pants en een kaki hemd – de Hugo Chavez van de jazz, altijd klaar om ten strijde te trekken.

Miel Vanattenhoven, jazz producer at Radio 1 and Klara, jazz connoisseur and advocate, has passed away. Miel was a regular attendant of jazz concerts at Vooruit. He was also often here to attend meetings as a member of the DJ Bigband’s board of directors. A charismatic person. Miel cut a familiar figure in combat baggy pants and a khaki shirt – the Hugo Chavez of jazz, ever ready to join in the fray.
