Vooruit-exe

In deSingel, Antwerpen werden vanavond de CultuurPrijzen Vlaanderen 2007 uitgereikt. Kunstencentrum Vooruit mocht er de Prijs van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap voor Algemene Culturele Verdienste 2007 in ontvangst nemen. Die prijs wordt jaarlijks toegekend als bekroning van een loopbaan, een integraal oeuvre of een uitzonderlijke verdienste voor het brede culturele veld gedurende meerdere jaren.

Tonight at deSingel Antwerp, the Vooruit Arts Centre received the 2007 Prize for Cultural Merit, Flanders’ most important culture award. The prize is annually awarded by the Flemish Community to honour a career, an oeuvre or an achievement of exceptional merit for a broad cultural spectrum over a period of several years.

“Vooruit is traditie én belofte”, klonk het bij de jury. “Na een kwarteeuw is Vooruit een klinkende naam en een gevestigde waarde in het Vlaamse kunstenlandschap. Tegelijk blijft het centrum zijn eigen functie en aanpak heruitvinden. Daardoor creëert het voor telkens nieuwe generaties ingangen naar meer en diepgaandere cultuurparticipatie. Vooruit is verdienste en toekomst. Vooruit maakt zijn naam, steeds opnieuw, waar.”

“Vooruit stands for tradition and promise”, the jury said. “A quarter century after it was founded, Vooruit is a household name and an established player on the Flemish arts scene. At the same time, the arts centre constantly reinvents its function and approach, thus creating possibilities for increasing and deepening cultural participation for every new generation. Vooruit stands for merit and future. Vooruit never fails to live up to its reputation.”

Koppig pionieren
Vooruit neemt al 25 jaar lang koppig een voortrekkersrol op, door gretig en gedreven een vinger aan de pols te houden van artistieke tendensen, publieksparticipatie en een veranderende maatschappij. Als het nodig was de werking daarvoor opnieuw uit te vinden, heeft Vooruit dat ook gedaan. Dat aspect van het juryrapport doet het bestuur en de ploeg van Vooruit dan ook bijzonder veel genoegen.

Stubborn pioneering
Vooruit has been a passionate and enthusiastic pioneer in the arts world for 25 years and has always kept its finger on the pulse of new artistic trends, audience participation and changes in society. When the time was ripe to change our way of working, Vooruit did not hesitate. The Vooruit board and crew are very pleased with this aspect of the jury’s report in particular.

De Prijs van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap voor Algemene Culturele Verdienste heeft Vooruit te danken aan zijn hecht team, alle (ex-)medewerkers die de afgelopen 25 jaar het beste van zichzelf hebben gegeven; de overheden, de sponsors en partners die Vooruit steeds gesteund hebben; het publiek dat het huis op handen heeft gedragen; de architecten en aannemers die de intensieve restauratie van het Vooruitgebouw tot een goed einde hebben gebracht; de vele honderden kunstenaars en denkers die van Vooruit zo’n bruisend huis hebben gemaakt.

De bestemming van de prijs
Aan de Prijs van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap voor Algemene Culturele Verdienste is een bedrag van 20.000 euro verbonden. Kunstencentrum Vooruit wil dat prijzengeld in de loop van 2008 investeren in 2 beurzen voor jonge artiesten(collectieven) die een project willen opstarten of uitdiepen. Wordt vervolgt op Vooruit.EXE!

Use of the prize money
The prize money for the Prize for Cultural Merit from the Flemish Community is € 20,000. The arts centre would like to invest this money in 2 grants for young artists or collectives who are developing a new project. You’ll be able to read more on Vooruit.EXE soon!
