Vooruit neemt deel aan nieuwe IBBT-onderzoeksprojecten/ Vooruit will take part in several new IBBT research projects
Vooruit stapt vanaf 2008 opnieuw in enkele onderzoeksprojecten ondersteund door het ICT-onderzoeksinstituut IBBT. Eén van die projecten heet DEUS, het letterwoord voor Deployment and Easy Use of Wireless Services.
In 2008, Vooruit will take part in several research projects in association with the IBBT research institute. One of these projects is DEUS, which stands for Deployment and Easy Use of Wireless Services.
DEUS streeft naar de ontwikkeling van eenvoudig te beheren draadloze sensornetwerken, nieuwe draadloze mesh netwerken, positioneringtechnologie gebaseerd op lage-kost technologie en gebruikersinterfaces die de DEUS oplossing makkelijk installeerbaar en bruikbaar maken op maat van dynamische omgevingen.
DEUS wishes to develop easily managed wireless networks, new wireless mesh networks, positioning technology based on low-cost technology and user interfaces that make sure DEUS is easily installed and used in a dynamic environment.

Binnen het IBBT-project WBA (Wireless Building Automation) werden dergelijke netwerkoplossingen al bestudeerd en ontwikkeld. De uitgewerkte oplossingen en bereikte resultaten werden succesvol gedemonstreerd in Vooruit (Zie verslag WBA-demodag op EXE). Verder onderzoek blijkt echter nodig om die oplossingen robuuster te maken.
This research project is a follow-up of IBBT’s WBA (Wireless Building Automation) project, in which a solid technological basis was laid in the field of sensor networks, positioning and in-building heterogeneous networks (see EXE’s WBA demo day report).

In een wereld van toenemende technologische complexiteit wordt er tegenwoordig veel aandacht besteed aan innovatieve interactietechnieken tussen mens en computer. Nieuwe computerinterfaces worden steeds geschikter voor gebruik in verschillende contexten en door een bredere doorsnede van de bevolking.
In a world where technology seems to be getting ever more complex, innovative interaction techniques between man and computer are becoming increasingly popular. These new techniques make new computer interfaces more suitable for different environments and accessible to a wider audience.
Het project MuTable wil multi-touchtechnologie ontwikkelen tot op een niveau waarop ze in openbare ruimtes zoals musea en bibliotheken kan worden gebruikt.
The MuTable project wants to develop multi-touch technology on a level that can be used in public places such as museums and libraries.
Het derde en laatste project uit de reeks is CUPID, voluit Cultural Profile and Information Database. Dat project betekent voor Vooruit een vervolgtraject voor het IBBT-project VACF (Virtual Arts Centre of the Future), waarin we samen met partners uit de industriële, culturele en onderzoekswereld nagingen hoe web 2.0 modellen mogelijkheden kunnen scheppen een toekomstgerichte cultuurcommunicatie en interactie met het publiek.
The third and last project is CUPID, which stands for Cultural Profile and Information Database. This project is a follow-up of IBBT’s VACF (Virtual Arts Centre of the Future) project, for which Vooruit, together with partners from the industrial, cultural and research world, investigated how web 2.0 models could create new possibilities for future cultural communication and interaction with the audience.
In CUPID komen verschillende aspecten aan bod: hoe kan cultuur- en vrijetijdsinformatie zo optimaal mogelijk worden verzameld en beheerd; hoe kun je cultuur- en vrijetijdsinformatie best categoriseren; hoe kun je informatie doelgericht ontsluiten naar specifieke individuen/doelgroepen; welke interessante distributiemodellen en ontsluitingsmechanismen zijn er voor de cultuurparticipant.
CUPID will address several issues: how can information about culture and leisure be gathered and managed optimally; how is this information best categorised; how is it best made available to specific individuals or target groups and which distribution models or mechanisms are interesting for the culture lover?
