Het ICT-onderzoeksinstituut IBBT start een Art&D-programma op: een jaarlijks programma van projecttoelagen aan kunstenaars (individuen of collectieven) voor projecten die ICT-onderzoek als kernelement omvatten. Vanaf vandaag, 19 november, kunnen aanvragen worden ingediend. We willen u vragen om deze oproep door te seinen naar geïnteresseerde kunstenaars.

The ICT research institute IBBT has launched an annual Art&D grants programme for artistic projects focusing on ICT research and development. As of the 19th of November, you can send in project proposals. We would like to ask our colleagues and other contacts to spread the word among interested artists.

Het IBBT is opgericht en gefinancierd door de Vlaamse Overheid om multidisciplinair en vraaggedreven onderzoek te verrichten in samenwerking met een brede waaier aan bedrijven en organisaties. Vanwege het stijgende belang van de creatieve aspecten van technologische innovatie en uit overtuiging dat de ontwikkeling van een duurzaam concurrerend voordeel ligt in de integratie van onderzoek, organisatie en creativiteit, heeft IBBT het Art&D-programma in het leven geroepen. Dit programma is bedoeld om mensen en kennis, kunstenaars en onderzoekers te verbinden.

The IBBT is an is an institute founded and sponsored by the Flemish Government. Its mission is to perform demand-driven, multi-disciplinary research in association with a wide range of companies and organizations. Because of the increasing importance of the creative aspect of new technologies, and IBBT’s belief that the integration of research, organization and creativity will provide a real and sustainable competitive advantage, the IBBT has created the Art&D programme. This programme wishes to connect people and knowledge, artists and researchers, leading to a mutually beneficial experience.

Het IBBT wil kunstenaars aanmoedigen om ICT-onderzoek in hun werk te gebruiken, in de hoop dat dit zal leiden tot nieuwe ideeën, nieuw onderzoek, een waardevol artistiek resultaat en een breder (buiten de onderzoeksgemeenschap) inzicht in elkaars onderzoeksvragen, methodes en benaderingen. Omdat het aanpassen van bestaand onderzoek, het leren hoe met technologie om te gaan en het onderzoeken van de mogelijkheden voor artistieke projecten een tijd- en geldrovende onderneming is, verstrekt het IBBT via het Art&D-programma toelagen aan artistieke projecten.

The IBBT wishes to encourage artists to use ICT research in their work, hoping that this will lead to new ideas, new research, a valuable artistic result and a broader understanding (outside of the research community) of each others research questions, methods and approaches. IBBT realises, however, that adapting existing research, learning how to work with technology and exploring its possibilities for artistic projects is a time- and money consuming enterprise. That’s why the Art&D programme will award a grant to several artistic projects.
Note that artists from all nationalities can apply, but the research collaborations are limited to existing IBBT research groups in Belgium (which means that the applicant should have sufficient time at his/her disposal, and will need to reside in Belgium during at least part of the project).
