Vooruit-exe

Noem het gerust het mekka van de mediakunst. Ars Electronica is het grootste en oudste festival voor kunst en technologie in Europa. Naast de traditionele tentoonstelling in het OKCentrum, is er dit jaar een heuse expostraat te bezichtigen.

It’s safe to say that Ars Electronica is the Mecca of Media Arts. Ars Electronica is the biggest and oldest festival for art and technology in Europe. Apart from the traditional exhibition in the Ars Electronica Centre, this year, there was also an exhibition street.

Deze werd Second City gedoopt en huisvest een tros artiesten die allemaal op ludieke wijze antwoorden verzinnen op het fenomeen Second Life. Het symposium onder de noemer Goodbye Privacy werd samengesteld door kunstenaar/schrijver Armin Medosch en radiomaakster Ina Zwerger. Het belichtte verschillende aspecten van het alomtegenwoordige issue : surveillance.

This project was called Second City, and all the artists present played with the Internet phenomenon Second Life. The conference Goodbye Privacy was organised by artist / writer Armin Medosch and radio presenter / producer Ina Zwerger. It shed light on several aspects of the ever-present surveillance issue.

Een van de centrale gasten in Second City is Aram Bartholl, die in Vooruit te gast was tijdens ‘the game is up!’ in februari van dit jaar. In Gent werd WoW uitgetest waarbij Aram met een groep enthousiastelingen de straat introk met hun echte namen zwevend boven hun hoofd (naar analogie met de namen van avatars in games). Het filmpje van WoW ging intussen de (mediakunsten)wereld rond. In Linz werd een tweede versie uitgetest. (Zie foto ‘WOW in actie’.)

One of the central guests of Second City was Aram Bartholl, who showed his work at the Vooruit festival The game is up! in February 2007, when he tried out his city intervention WoW in Ghent. For WoW, a group of enthusiasts took to the streets with their names floating above their heads (just like avatars in video games). You can view the WoW video here. In Linz, a second version was tested (see picture below).

Julien Maire was met zijn performances ‘Demi-Pas’ en ‘Slow Motion’ onze gast tijdens Almost Cinema 06 en kaapte in Linz een ‘Honorary Mention’ weg in de categorie ‘Hybrid Art’ voor zijn nieuw installatiewerk ‘Exploding Camera’. Zijn performance ‘Digit’ – die bij ons op het programma staat in het kader van 25 jaar Vooruit. Een feest – werd opgemerkt in de categorie ‘Interactive Art’.

At Almost Cinema 06, we welcomed Julien Maire with his performances Demi Pas and Slow Motion. In Linz he got an Honorary Mention in the Hybrid Art category for his new installation Exploding Camera. His Digit performance – which is on the programmed of the 25 years of Vooruit birthday bash – didn’t go unnoticed either in the Interactive Art category.

Er stond ook werk opgesteld van Peter William Holden, één van die twee werken – Autogene – staat bij ons op het programma voor het aankomende Almost Cinema. (Zie afbeelding.)

Peter William Holden was also exhibiting, and one of the two works on show, Autogene, will be coming to Almost Cinema 07. (see image below)
