Vooruit-exe

De zomer is voorbij. Het culturele seizoen trekt zich op gang. Al lag het seizoen in Vooruit nooit écht stil. We ontvingen de jonge choreografen/dansers Tarek Halaby en Sujata Goel. Dolores Bouckaert was in alle stilte in één van onze studio’s aan het werk en Ontroerend Goed, nog maar net terug van hun overwinningstocht in het verre Edinburg (Fringe Festival), palmde een andere studio in. Maar nu is het bijna herfst, en maken enkele bekende en minder bekende namen zich op voor hun eindspurt richting première. In pole position staat Crew. Summer is gone. But the cultural season is only just getting started, and in Vooruit, it never stopped. Over the summer, we welcomed young choreographers / dancers Tarek Halaby and Sujata Goel. Dolores Bouckaert worked in one of our studios while Ontroerend Goed, only just back from their victory march in faraway Edinburgh (Fringe Festival), occupied another studio. But now autumn is almost here and some well-known and less-known names are getting ready for their premières. Crew is in pole position. Pictures below of their play O_Rex and Eric Joris.

De hele maand september maken Eric Joris en zijn companen in de domzaal van Vooruit de laatste technische, esthetische en dramatische aanpassingen aan O_Rex, hun nieuwe immersieve voorstelling die in Vooruit in première gaat op 29 september 2007, ism het Festival van Vlaanderen.

In September, Eric Joris and his Crew members will be making the last technical, aesthetic and dramatic adjustments to O_Rex, their new immersive show which will première at Vooruit on the 29th of September 2007, in association with the Flanders Festival.

Een week later houdt de Franstalig Brusselse choreografe Karine Ponties haar boreling onder de doopvont: Boreas. De voorstelling, een samenwerking met beeldend kunstenaar Lawrence Malstaf en componist Dominique Pauwels (LOD) op een tekst van Stefan Hertmans, neemt de wind in al zijn gedaanten tot onderwerp. A week later, Brussels-based choreographer Karine Ponties will be presenting her new work, Boreas. The show, which she has created together with plastic artist Lawrence Malstaf and composer Dominique Pauwels (LOD) and for which by Stefan Hertmans wrote the text, has the wind and all its manifestations as its subject. Beide voorstellingen maken onderdeel uit van IETM (Informal European Theatre Meeting), een internationaal netwerk van professionelen uit de podiumkunsten dat dit jaar in Gent neerstrijkt. Vooruit en het Festival Van Vlaanderen organiseren samen deze meeting, die naast workshops en meetings ook een ruim artistiek luik aanbiedt aan de participanten, in Vooruit en daarbuiten.

Both of these shows are part of IETM (Informal European Theatre Meeting), an international network of professionals from the world of Performing Arts that touches down in Ghent this year. Vooruit and the Flanders Festival will be organizing this event together, which will not only be offering workshops and meetings, but also a broad artistic programme.

Een andere artiest die in deze periode nieuw werk toont is choreograaf/performer Heine R. Avdal, één van de drie kernfiguren van deepblue, een vertrouwd gezelschap in Vooruit de laatste jaren. Heine maakt met Drop a line een doorlopende voorstelling/installatie die verderbouwt op een vorige installatie van zijn hand (dit mag je letterlijk nemen): Box with Holes. Drop a line kent zijn Belgische première in Vooruit tijdens ons Feest voor 25 jaar Vooruit en loopt ook door tijdens IETM.

Another artist that will be showing new work around this time is choreographer / performer Heine R. Avdal, one of the key figures of deepblue, a company that has performed at Vooruit on several occasions in the past years. Heine has made a continuous exhibition / installation which continues along the path set out by one of his previous installations, Box with Hole. Drop a line will have its Belgian première in Vooruit during our 25th birthday bash and will stay in place for IETM.

Ook Dolores Bouckaert presenteert nieuw werk op ons verjaardagsfeest. Met Black Nights bouwt ze een intieme installatie die je doorlopend kan gaan bezoeken op het hoogste (en droogste, vraag maar aan de Gentse brandweer) plekje in Vooruit, de voorbouwzolder. Ook de installatie van Dolores zal nog tijdens IETM getoond worden.

Dolores Bouckaert will also be presenting new work at our birthday bash. Black Nights is an intimate installation that will be set up in the highest (and driest, just ask the Ghent fire squad) spot of Vooruit, the attic of the front building. You will be able to view the installation at IETM as well.

En dan, dan… Wel… Als ons verjaardagsfeest en IETM achter de rug zijn, dan beginnen weer een hele resem nieuwe artiesten aan hun laatste rechte lijn: Kris Verdonck monteert in Minard zijn nieuwe performance/dansvoorstelling I/II/III/IIII af om er op vrijdag 16 november in première te gaan. De week nadien toont de Portugese theatermaakster Patricia Portela haar nieuwe creatie Banquet, een voorstelling die het midden houdt tussen een diner en een performance… (Zie beeld boven.) Patricia Portela is de hele maand die eraan vooraf gaat druk in de weer in de dansstudio en de Balzaal van Vooruit. Lazarus, de nieuwe campagnie van Günther Lesage, Joris Van den Brande, Koen de Graeve, Pieter Genard en Ryszard Turbiasz gaat voor Iets anders! te rade bij de Poolse auteur Ryszard Kapuscinski en toont dit voor het eerst aan de buitenwereld in Minard op 28 november, na een werk- en afmonteerperiode aldaar. In december keert Onroerend Goed terug naar Vooruit, en ze brengen hun Nederlandse vrienden van TG Monk mee. Samen maken ze de kerstspecial (om hun eigen term te gebruiken) OG vs MONK – kerstmis in badpak. Dit gaat in Vooruit in première als de Sint er ook is. Benieuwd wat hij er van zal vinden.

And after that….Well…when our birthday party and IETM are over, a whole new series of artists will be getting ready for their premières: Kris Verdonck will be editing his new drama / dance performance I/II/III/IIII at Minard; where the piece will première on the 16th of November. The week after that the Portuguese playwright Patricia Portela will be performing her new work, Banquet, which will be an interesting combination of a dinner and a performance (see picture above). Patricia Portela will be rehearsing in the Vooruit dansstudio and Balzaal during the entire month preceding the première. Lazarus, the new company with Günther Lesage, Joris Van den Brande, Koen de Graeve, Pieter Genard and Ryszard Turbiasz look to the Polish author Ryszard Kapuscinski for inspirationfor their new work Iets Anders. They will be showing the result in Minard on the 28th of November, after a rehearsal and editing period there. In December, *Ontroerend Goedwill be returning to Vooruit, together with their Dutch friends TG Monk. Together, they will be performing the ‘Christmas special’ OG vs Monk – kerstmis in badpak. The play will première at Vooruit on the 6th of December 2007.

En dan begint er een nieuw jaar, met nieuwe voorstellingen. Maar wat er dan op stapel staat… dat vertellen we dan wel weer.

And then it’s the beginning of a new year, with new performances. But we’ll tell you about these new projects when we get there.
