Zomerresidenties / Summer residencies
Nu de zomer volop aan de gang is en iedereen naar berg en zee vertrekt, nu ook de Vooruit-programmatie even stil ligt, lijkt het wel alsof er niets meer in het Feestlokaal gebeurt. Maar dat is slechts schijn: achter de muren van onze 4 studio’s wordt er wel degelijk naarstig gewerkt door artiesten. Vooruit biedt deze artiesten in de zomermaanden een studioruimte aan om rustig verder te werken aan hun projecten: Dolores Bouckaert & Bernard Van Eeghem, Alexandra Bachzetsis, Sujata Goel & Tarek Halaby en Mette Edvardsen.
Now summer is in full (Belgian) swing and even the Vooruit programme is eerily empty, you might be fooled into thinking that nothing is happening behind the statuesque façade of your beloved Arts Centre. Wrong. During the summer, Vooruit offers studios to a number of artists, so that they can develop their creative ideas in peace. The artists occupying studios in Vooruit this summer are: Dolores Bouckaert and Bernard Van Eeghem, Alexandra Bachzetsis, Sujata Goel and Tarek Halaby and Mette Edvardsen.
De Gentse Dolores Bouckaert is in de mokabon (zo noemen we de middelste van de drie studio’s aan de achterkant van Vooruit) aan het werk met acteur Bernhard Van Eeghem aan wat de voorstelling Mididoublé zal worden. Vorige week nog nodigde ze enkele mensen uit bij een eerste toonmoment. Weliswaar nog zeer pril, maar de kern zag er veelbelovend uit. Het is niet de eerste keer dat Dolores in Vooruit aan het werk is. In het verleden werkte ze ook al enkele keren in onze studio’s. Ze was één van de artiesten tijdens 20 something en toonde vorig seizoen met Hans Bryssinck de voorstelling Sterven in Stijl. In het najaar van 2007 duikt Dolores terug op in ons programma tijdens het feest voor 25 jaar Vooruit met ‘Black nights / Blue words : act of connecting’, een doorlopende performance op de zolder van Vooruit.
Dolores Bouckaert is working on the show ‘Mididoublé’ with actor Bernard Van Eeghem. A couple of weeks ago, she invited a small audience to come and have a look. Even at that stage, it looked promising. Dolores is not a stanger to Vooruit. She has already worked in our studios a couple of times. She was also one of the artists at ‘20 something’ and performed ‘Sterven in Stijl’ together with actor Hans Bryssinck. In the fall Dolores will be back in Vooruit for our 25th anniversary party. Here she will be performing ‘Black nights / Blue words’.
Alexandra Bachzetsis repeteert in augustus aan ACT, de voorstelling die ze met Lies Vanborm en Tina Bleuler maakte in het voorjaar. Aangezien ze net als Dolores op het Feest voor onze 25ste verjaardag te gast is met deze miniatuur, zet ze in de studio nog even de puntjes terug op de i. Ook nog in het najaar toont ze Mainstream, het duet dat ze ook in het voorjaar maakte met Yan Duyvendack. Alexandra is een vaste gast in Vooruit, want in het verleden toonde (en maakte) ze hier al voorstellingen als Showdance en Musical. In januari 2008 komt ze trouwens nog een keer terug voor een winterresidentie: dan werkt ze in de studio samen met Danaï Anesiadou, ook al geen onbekende in Vooruit (onlangs nog was Danaï in Vooruit te gast met ‘Chuck Norris doesn’t sleep, he waits…’, een voorstelling met Diederik Peeters en Hans Bryssinck).
Alexandra Bachzetsis will be rehearsing ‘ACT’ in August, the show she made together with Lies Vanborm and Tina Bleuler in the spring. Seeing she is performing the show again at our anniversary party, she wanted to dot the i’s and cross the t’s. She will also be performing ‘Mainstream’, a duet she made in the spring with Yan Duyvendack. In the past, Alexandra performed shows such as ‘Showdance’ and ‘Musical’ at Vooruit. In January she will return to Vooruit for a winter residency. She will be working with Danaï Anesiadou, who has already visited Vooruit with the performance ‘Chuck Norris doesn’t sleep, he waits…’ together with Diederik Peeters and Hans Bryssinck.
Sujata Goel en Tarek Halaby werken de volledige maand augustus aan hun eerst voorstelling: Nightlife. Sujata is van Amerikaans-Indiase oorsprong, Tarek heeft Amerikaans-Palestijnse roots. Beiden studeerden vorig jaar af aan PARTS, de dansschool van Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. De no-nonsense aanpak van hun eerste kleine project tesamen, met name ‘Discodancer’, trok meteen de aandacht in binnen- en buitenland. Discodancer baseerde zich op een dansante scène uit een Bollywoodfilm en duurde niet langer dan tien minuten. Vooruit stapt (samen met enkele andere nationale en internationale partners) mee in hun eerste productie, die de ingeslagen weg van Discodancer verder onderzoekt. De voorstelling gaat in het voorjaar in première en staat op 16 en 17 april 2008 in onze Domzaal.
Sujata Goel and Tarek Halaby will be working on their dance performance ‘Nightlife’. Sujata has American and Indian roots and Tarek is of American and Palestinian origin. Both of them graduated from Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s dance school, PARTS. The no-nonsense approach of their first project, ‘Discodancer’, received a great deal of attention in Belgium and other countries. ‘Discodancer’ was based on a dancing scene in a Bollywood movie and didn’t last a second longer than 10 minutes. Vooruit (among other national and international partners) is helping them to develop their first production, ‘Nightlife’, which continues along the path set out by ‘Discodancer’. The show premieres in the spring and can be seen on the 16th and 17th of April in the Dome.
Mette Edvardsen tot slot werkt verder aan haar voorstelling ‘or else nobody will know’. Deze Noorse choreografe is ook geen onbekende meer in Vooruit. Oorspronkelijk actief bij Les Ballets C. de la B., begon ze enkele solovoorstellingen te maken die ook in Vooruit te zien waren: Time will show en tijdens The Game is Up! (februari 2007) nog The way / you move. Met ‘or else nobody will know’ waagt Mette zich aan een groepsvoorstelling met zes performers. Deze voorstellign zal in het najaar al in première gaan en het eindresultaat kan je in Vooruit komen bekijken op 14 en 15 november 2007.
Finally, Mette Edvardsen will be working on her performance ‘Or else nobody will know’. This Norwegian choreographer is also no stranger to Vooruit. She used to be a member of Les Ballets C. de la B., but then she started performing solo, with shows that could also be seen at Vooruit, i.e. ‘Time will show’ and ‘The way / you move’ during ‘The game is up!’. ‘Or else nobody will know’ will be a group performance brought by six performers. The show will premiere in the fall, shows on the 14th and 15th of November.
Als Mette, Sujata, Tarek, Alexandra en Dolores op het einde van de zomer de deur van hun repetitiestudio dichttrekken, gooien wij ze meteen weer open voor enkele artiesten die in de laatste rechte lijn zitten naar hun première toe: Crew, Heine Avdal (deepblue), Karin Ponties, Patricia Portela, Lazarus en Kris Verdonck.
