Vooruit lanceert op 20 april als eerste culturele organisatie in Vlaanderen een nieuwe website die volledig op web 2.0-principes geënt is. (En is daarmee beslist een ‘early adopter’ in internationaal perspectief.) Het nieuwe webplatform is een concrete uitwerking van een deel van de resultaten uit het pas afgeronde onderzoeksproject VACF (Virtual Arts Centre of the Future) van het IBBT (Interdisciplinair Instituut voor BreedbandTechnologie). De site bevat al veel verfijnde / nieuwe functionaliteiten maar is nog een bètaversie. De komende weken groeit de site verder aan met multimediale informatie over het programma en inbreng van de Vooruit community. Vanaf september staat Vooruit web 2.0 er.

Vooruit launched its new website on the 20th of April. It is the first cultural organisation to launch a website that is entirely based on web 2.0 principles and it hereby proves it is an early adaptor even from an international point of view. The new web platform is the tangible result of the VACF (Virtual Arts Centre of the Future) research project that has just been rounded off by the IBBT (Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology). The web site already contains a number of refined and new functions, but please bear in mind that it is only a beta version. In September the definite version will be launched (with a full English section!).

Stefaan De Ruyck, Directeur Vooruit over het nieuwe webplatform: “Van culturele instellingen wordt niet enkel verwacht dat ze inspelen op een nieuw gamma aan dragers, kunst- en presentatievormen maar ook dat ze gebruikmaken van de toegenomen mogelijkheden voor communicatie en interactie met hun publiek. Rekening houdend met de basisbehoeften van bezoekers – exploreren, participeren, personaliseren, delen en creëren – wordt de eenrichtingscommunicatie van Kunstencentrum Vooruit dan ook vervangen door open-community-modellen (web 2.0), met meer informatie en duiding, een uitnodiging tot interactiviteit, uitgebreide kansen tot personalisatie en profilering. De digitalisering biedt zo opportuniteiten inzake de verbreding, verdieping en vernieuwing van de cultuurparticipatie, met de uitdaging om de drempels tussen aanbod en publiek maximaal weg te werken. We mikken daarbij in eerste instantie op een verhoging van de reële participatie. In tweede instantie verwachten we virtuele participanten, die nooit een voet in Vooruit zullen zetten.” “Onze bezoekers raken soms niet wijs uit het rijke culturele aanbod. Ze willen dingen ontdekken maar niet altijd risico’s nemen. Meer achtergrondinformatie, audiovisuele teasers en meningen van experts of andere bezoekers kunnen hen enthousiasmeren. Ze schuiven ook graag hun eigen mening naar voren, willen zich betrokken voelen.”

Stefaan De Ruyck, Vooruit’s general manager, speaking about the new web platform: “Cultural institutions should not only offer the newest in art, literature and music, but should also make use of the newest possibilities for communication and interaction between them and their public. Taking visitors’ basic needs (i.e. exploring, participating, personalising, sharing and creating) into account, Vooruit’s one-way communication is replaced by an open community model (web 2.0), with more information and analysis, inviting you to participate, and offering you plenty of possibilities to personalise your page and to give your opinion. Digitalisation offers us opportunities for broadening, deepening and renewing cultural participation. In the first place, we are aiming to augment the actual participation. In the second place, we expect to accommodate virtual participants who will never set foot in Vooruit. Sometimes our visitors find it hard to make a choice from our extensive programme. They want to discover things, but at the same time, they are afraid to take risks. More background information, audiovisual teasers and expert opinions or those of other visitors could motivate them. Our audience also likes sharing their views and feeling involved.”

Vooruit vindt het belangrijk om een technologisch-innovatief antwoord te formuleren op nieuwe en te verwachten behoeften van kunstenaars, bezoekers en medewerkers. Daarom staat digitalisering hoog op de prioriteitenlijst van de Vooruitploeg. Een digitaliseringsproces dat ingrijpt op alle facetten van de werking, vroeg om intense samenwerkingsverbanden met experts op onderzoeks- en technologisch vlak. Ondermeer met het IBBT (Interdisciplinair Instituut voor Breedband Technologie) zat Vooruit op dezelfde golflengte. Vooruit participeert in 2 IBBT-onderzoeksprojecten: WBA (Wireless Building Automation – draadloos netwerk voor gebouwbeheer) en VACF (Virtual Arts Centre of the Future – omtrent vernieuwende vormen van communicatie en interactie in het virtuele kunstencentrum van de toekomst). Het nieuwe webplatform dat Vooruit lanceert, is al een concrete uitwerking van een deel van de resultaten uit het VACF-onderzoek.

Vooruit thinks it is important to formulate a technological and innovative answer to current and future needs of artists, visitors and employees. This is why we attach so much importance to digitalisation. Because this digitalisation project will have its influence on all Vooruit’s activities, we have decided to work with research and technology experts. In IBBT, we found a partner that was on the same wavelength as us. Vooruit is participating in two IBBT research projects: WBA (Wireless Building Automation – a wireless network for building management and VACF (Virtual Arts Centre of the Future – exploring new forms of communication and interaction in the virtual arts centre of the future. Vooruit’s new web platform is already a tangible result of part of the VACF research project.
