IBBT research on VACF finished
In het VACF-project van het onderzoeksinstituut IBBT – Interdisciplinair Instituut voor BreedbandTechologie hebben partners uit de industriële, culturele en onderzoekswereld samen onderzocht wat de mogelijkheden van digitalisering en e-Cultuur zijn voor de culturele sector. De nadruk lag op nieuwe kansen voor communicatie en interactie met het publiek, met het oog op een bredere en intensere cultuurparticipatie. Kunstencentrum Vooruit fungeerde daarbij als pilot, maar de resultaten van het VACF-onderzoek zijn bruikbaar voor en uitbreidbaar naar de brede culturele sector.
For IBBT’s (Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology) VACF project, partners from the industrial, cultural and research world have investigated what the possibilities are for digitalisation and e-culture for the cultural sector. The emphasis was on new opportunities for communication and interaction with the public, with the intention to broaden and to deepen cultural participation. Vooruit Arts Centre served as a pilot project, but the results of the VACF research project can be used for every part of the cultural sector.
Nico Verplancke, Program Manager Nieuwe Media en e-Government IBBT over het afgeronde VACF-onderzoek: “Het VACF project is als eerste project in de cultuursector van bijzonder belang voor het IBBT. Door aan te tonen dat ook in de cultuursector plaats is voor ICT-onderzoek en -ontwikkeling, en dat dit naar concrete, bruikbare resultaten kan leiden, hoopt het IBBT in de toekomst nog meer projecten te kunnen definiëren rond e-Cultuur. Naast VACF zijn er recent een drietal nieuwe projecten opgestart waarin cultuurpartners een belangrijke rol spelen.”
Nico Verplancke, program manager for New Media and e-government at IBBT, speaks about the finished VACF project: “Because the VACF project is our first in the cultural sector, so it is of special importance to IBBT. By proving that there is a place for ICT research and development in the cultural sector and by showing that this can lead to tangible and useful results, IBBT hopes to define more projects related to e-culture. Following in VACF’s footsteps, three new projects in which cultural partners play an important role have been started up recently.”
Op 20 april stelden de VACF-partners de resultaten van het pas afgeronde VACF-project voor aan collega’s uit de cultuursector, bedrijfs- en onderzoekswereld. De betrokken IBBT-onderzoekers presenteerden het VACF-witboek ‘Het virtuele kunstencentrum van de toekomst’. Vooruit demonstreerde hoe (delen uit) het VACF-onderzoek zijn toegepast in de uitbouw van een nieuwe Vooruitsite. Workspace Unlimited en EDM toonden wat een 3D-virtuele omgeving kan betekenen voor de cultuurbeleving in de toekomst.
On the 20th of April, the partners of the VACF project presented the results of their project to colleagues from the cultural, industrial and research world. The IBBT researchers who were involved in the project presented the VACF white book: ‘The virtual arts centre of the future’. Vooruit demonstrated how (parts of) the VACF research project have been applied to the new Vooruit website. Workspace Unlimited and EDM showed what a virtual 3D environment could mean for cultural participation in the future.
