WIFI network
Vooruit is WIFI! En het bleek een bijzondere opdracht om in een complex, beschermd gebouw zoals Vooruit een draadloos netwerk te installeren. Het kunstencentrum telt namelijk 367 kamers en zalen die vaak door dikke lagen beton van elkaar gescheiden zijn.
Vooruit goes WiFi! And it turned out to be quite a task to install a wireless network in a complex classified monument like the Vooruit. After all, it has 367 rooms and halls, many of which are separated from each other by thick layers of concrete.
De 20.000 vierkante meter oppervlakte van het gebouw wordt momenteel volledig afgedekt door 80 antennes. Dat is noodzakelijk omdat het WIFI systeem er niet alleen voor zorgt dat er via draadloze telefoons (IP-telephony) gebeld kan worden maar ook dat andere systemen, zoals het gebouwbeheersysteem en de veiligheidsvoorzieningen, geïntegreerd zijn. En die systemen moeten natuurlijk tot in het kleinste hoekje of hoogste torentje bereikbaar zijn.
Het WIFI netwerk staat ook open voor de artiesten en bezoekers in Vooruit. In het Kafee is het niet alleen genieten van koffie, lunch, kranten, ... maar ook van (gratis!) draadloos surfen op het internet. Artiesten kunnen draadloos aan de slag in de repetitieruimtes, loges, backstage, ...
The building’s 20,000 square metres are currently covered by 80 antennae. This is essential because the WiFi system not only makes sure that calls can be made on wireless telephones (IP telephony) but also that other systems, such as the building management system and the safety facilities can be integrated. And these systems must of course be accessible in the remotest corner and the highest tower.
The WiFi network is also available to performers and visitors to the Vooruit. So a visit to the Kafee no longer means just enjoying coffee, lunch and the newspapers, but also free wireless surfing on the internet! Artists can work wirelessly in the rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms, backstage and anywhere else they like.
